Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical significance of ASCUS(atypical squamous cells undetermined significance)of cervical smear. Methods 105 patients with ASCUS were detected by colposcopy and high risk HPV(HR-HPV)test,biopsy of cervical tissue under colposcopy was performed simultaneously, and the data of patients were studied. Results The ASCUS mostly occurred at the age of 30 to 49 years-old(70.48%).Among the 105 cases of ASCUS,histological examination proved that there were 85 cases of cervicitis(80.95%),19 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(18.10%)and 1 case of invasive cervical carcinoma(0.95%).In this study,43 cases were HR-HPV positive,in which 11 cases were CIN 1 and 7 cases were CIN2/3;while among the 62 cases who were HR-HPV negative,9 cases were CIN 1 and 1 case was CIN3.Among all of these ASCUS patients,18 cases were without any symptoms, the other 87 cases had different kinds of symptoms(82.86%).There were no positive correlation between symptoms and cervical diseases(P=0.587).Conclusions Colposcopy should be taken for those ASCUS patients with positive HR-HPV.Colposcopy and biopsy was the best way to improve the detective rate and accuracy of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.
