Abstract

This paper expounded the interrelations among gear's flank profile, gear's basic flank profile, and rack cutter's flank profile. On these bases, the essential and general characteristics for both the teeth and the flank profiles of pure rolling contact (PRC) rack cutters were found, and a simple proof of inexorably obtaining PRC gears by the generating motion among two PRC rack cutters and two gear blanks was offered. These works summer up the common grounds of various PRC gear tooth forms, so they will become the bases of studying PRC gears.
