Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effects of extraction treatment of Ⅲ° deep overjet and overbite malocclusion of permanent dentition with maxillary protrusion or arch length discrepancy. Methods 12 severe anterior deep overjet and overbite malocclusions in permanent dentition with maxillary protrusion or arch lenghth discrepancy were treated by Edgewise technique by extracting 4 first bicuspids, and cephalometric measurements before and after treatment were done.Result After treatment, the severe anterior overjet and overbite of all patients were corrected to normal range.SNA,ANB,UI-NA,LI-NB,NA-PA were reduced by 1.60(P0.05),1.80(P0.01),3.4mm(P0.01),1.2mm(P0.01),4.40(P0.01),respectively.NP-FH increased by 1.50(P0.01).LI-LM/MP,UI-UM/FH reduced by 4.9mm(P0.01),1.8mm(P0.01),respectively.Conclusion Ⅲ0deep overjet and overbite malocclusion in permanent dentition with maxillary protrusion or arch length discrepancy can be treated successfully by Edgewise technique with extraction of 4 first bicuspids.
