Analysis on the Female and Male flowers Strobilus production in Seedling Seed Orchard of Masson's Pine(Pinus massoniana)

The amount of female and male flowers strobilus from 21 families was investigated in Baisha seedling seed orchard of masson's pine(Pinus massoniana) from Shanghang County,Fujian Province.The results indicated that the amount of female and male flower strobilus,either within a family or between families,was significantly different,and the amount of female flower strobilus was also different from that of male.The amount of flower strobilus was significantly different in the different layers of canopy.The female flower strobilus was mainly distributed in the upper and middle layers,and the male flower strobilus was mainly distributed in the middle and lower layers.As a result of the illumination influence,the amount of flower strobilus in the east side of a tree was the least,and relatively were more in the south side and the west side.Accordingly,the female and male flower strobilus production and their proper proportion were also important and should be considered when a seedling seed orchard of masson's pine was established.
