Abstract

Based on the reflection of the modernradicalism,Lin Yu-sheng distinguishesMay Fourth Thoughtfrom May Fourth SpiritandMay Fourth Goal:the former refers to the anti-traditional radicalism;the middle refers to the idea ofCaring the World as Their Own Dutyof the Chinese intellectuals;the latter means a goal of strong country,includingfreedom,democracy,rule of lawandscience.At the same time,aboutThe Dispute between Science and Metaphysics,Lin thinks that both of them regardscientismasthe default configuration;therefore their goals cannot be achieved.Based on the above reflections,Lin claims to transcendMay Fourth ThoughtandThe Dispute between Science and Metaphysics,in order tocreatively transformthe traditional Chinese culture,namely,and to restructure and renovate the traditional culture,and to accomplish its modernization on the premise of maintaining its cultural identity.According to Lin's theory,this is the development direction of modern Chinese culture.
