Abstract

This paper is concerned with an important aspect of regional income convergence,β-convergence.The authors make an empirical research to examine the β-convergence process for China's regional per-capita GDP using techniques of spatial error autocorrelation model. The evidence shows that there is divergence in China's regional per-capita GDP in the period from 1996 to 2005.Then we separate the whole period into two sub-periods:1996-2000 and 2001-2005.The results suggest that there is β-convergence in the first period and the divergence in the second period when we use the same method to investigate it.Because of the weak test power of spatial panel data model test and small sample,we use the bootstrap simulation method to test the results.
