Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical significance of serum human epididymis protein 4(HE4) in patients with ovarian cancer . Methods Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to detect the level of serum HE4 in 82 patients with ovarian cancer,143 patients with ovarian benign lesion and 40 healthy individuals. Serum CA125 was detected simultaneously. To evaluate the sensitivity, specificity and other diagnostic indicators, draw out ROC curve and compute the area under the curve. Results The levels of serum HE4 in patients with ovarian cancer were significantly higher those in patients with ovarian benign lesion and healthy individuals (all P0.01). There was not significant difference between the patients with ovarian benign lesion and the healthy individuals. The sensitivity of HE4 to ovarian cancer was 85.37%(70/82),the specificity was 94.54%(173/183).They were all higher than CA125. The area under curve of ROC for HE4 was 0.949 and 0.903 for CA125. HE4 had greater diagnostic value than CA125 in ovarian cancer diagnosis. Conclusion HE4 shows the higher diagnostic sensitivity and specificity. It can be a good new diagnostic marker of ovarian cancer.
