Abstract
Objective To assess the value of ultrasound guided core needle biopsy in diagnosing breast cancer and pre-cancer lesions. Methods One hundred and four patients with breast mass who received ultrasound guided core needle biopsy were included. The pathological results of the biopsies were compared between the pre and post-operational pathological diagnosis. Results The results of core needle biopsy included breast cancer in 63 patients, pre-cancer in 8 patients and benign breast lesions in 33 patients, only 3 patients were diagnosed mastopathy by needle biopsy, but was confirmed to be breast intraductal carcinoma in situ by post-operation pathological examination. The sensibility, specificity and accuracy of the ultrasound guided puncture and biopsy was 95.8%, 100%and 97.1%, respectively. Conclusions Ultrasound guided core needle biopsy is a safe, accurate and reliable diagnostic approach for breast small mass before operation. It plays an important role in early diagnosis of breast cancer.
