Clinical Evaluation of 64 Slice Volume CTU in the Diagnosis of Urinary Tract Obstruction

Objective:To discuss the diagnostic value of 64 slice volume CT urography (VCTU) in ureteral obstruction.Methods:64 slice VCTU was performed in 25 cases with ureteral diseases.The volume data of all patients were reconstructed with 3D reconstruction techniques including maximum intensity projection (MIP),multiple plane reformation (MPR),and volume rendering technique (VRT),and curve plane reformation (CPR).Results:Among the 25 cases,there were 15 cases of ureteral calculus,5 carcinomas,2 renal and ureteral tuberculosis stenosis,1 malformation with double renal pelvis and ureter,1 malformation with congenital huge ureter,and 1 inflammatory stenosis.All cases were confirmed by surgery or cilinical data.On VCTU,the location,shape and diameter of the lesions and enlargement of renal pelvis and ureter were clearly displayed.Conclusion:64 slice VCTU has an unique advantage in the diagnosis of urinary system diseases such as neoplasm,stone and other ureteral obstruction for its high spatial resolution and the high quality of reconstructions.
