Abstract

Objective To study the MRI characters of communicating hydrocephalus and analyze the indication of endoscopic 3rd ventriculostomy. Methods Fifteen patients with communicating hydrocephalus treated by endoscopic 3rd ventriculostomy were analyzed. The imaging characters of routine MRI scan were studied pre and postoperatively, respectively. Results Patients were followed between 6 months and two years, the MRI postoperatively showed that hydrocephalus was improved and enlarged ventricles as well as peri-ventricular edema were reduced. Conclusions MRI can show the shape of cisterns, three ventricular floor and the edema around the ventricle, therefore being able to analyze the extraventricular intracisternal obstructive site of communicating hydrocephalus. The imaging analysis of communication hydrocephalus preoperatively can help surgeon define the appropriate indication of communicating hydrocephalus treated by endoscopic 3rd ventriculostomy can identified through
