Abstract
Comparative analysis are made on smoke diffusion, temperature variation and the changing of smoke layer depth under smoke vent, when smoke exhaust rates are different. The results show that different smoke exhaust rates have great influence on smoke exhaust effect. In Code for Fire Protection Design of Tall Buildings, the criterion 'the air speed at smoke vent shouldn't be more than 10m/s'isn't reasonable. When making smoke exhaust design for high-rise building corridor,a reasonable smoke exhaust rate should be taken,to ensure that the controlling distance of smoke vent is less than the smoke layer depth,by concept of performance-based fire protection design.
