Abstract
The equivalent impact load scheme of moving variable load is presented to make a study of the feasibility of the dynamic response analysis of the large engineering structure under moving loads using standard finite element packages. The time varying, continuous, moving load is transformed into a series of equivalent impact loads with different loading positions and effective acting time, exerting on the finite element model for the dynamic response analysis. With an example of a beam under moving load, the feasibility of the equivalent scheme is validated. The effect of integration time steps and load discrete time steps is discussed. The computational accuracy can be satisfied as a load discrete time step covers about 8 integration time steps. The work will be extended to the dynamic response analysis of the large engineering structure under moving loads using standard finite element packages.
