Abstract
With the main thread of the differentiation of big and small in Zi, this paper intends to explore the contradiction existing in the two famous worksXiao Yiao You and QiWuLun and Zhuang Zi's attitude toward big and small. Therefore, the discrepancy between Zhuang Zi's theory and practice, his ideal and reality is well revealed. New explanation is made to Xiao Yao You's three levels and logical order. It holds that its true value lies not in its theoretical form and ultimate aim,but in his process of pursuing this state to deny the self-fettered reality. Zhuang Zi's distinguishing of big and small in reality is more edifying to people's understanding of the things than his equating of them in theory.
