Abstract

The comparison was made between thermal stability of polypropylene/montmorillonite(PP/MMT) nanocomposites which were prepared by melt-mixing and in-situ polymerization process respectively and the function of MMT in nanocomposite was studied. It was indicated by TEM photo that MMT nanocomposite prepared by both methods had better dispersion.TGA analysis showed that the thermal stability of PP/MMT materials prepared by in-situ polymerization was improved remarkably due to the existence of montmorillonite layers whether in air or nitrogen atmosphere. But the thermal stability of the materials prepared by melt-mixing presented different changes according to the atmosphere, which were declined in nitrogen atmosphere while increased in air atmosphere.
