Abstract
Objective To investigate the levels of serum testosterone, estradiol and sex hormone-binding globulin in male patients type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods 46 male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and 37 normal males were investigated.Serum levels of testosterone(T),estradiol(E_2),sex hormone-binging globulin(SHBG) and insulin were determined at the same time by ELISA.Results Compared with controls, the level of serum testosterone were decreased, and serum estradiol ad sex hormone-binding globulin levels were increased in type 2 diabetic male.It was also showed that no significant relationship between insulin and T,E_2 or SHBG was found in male patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Conclusion The serum levels of T,E_2 and SHBG are the perfect index showing the metabolic changes in male paltieuts with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
