A Cytological Study on Stamen Development of Cytoplasmic Male Sterile Line "Gexin 3" of Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L)

The stamen abortion of male-sterile tobacco Gexin 3 happens from the differentiation of stamen primordial to formation of sporogenous cell.The staminodes can hardly be seen in opening flowers.Sometimes,little staminodes appear in flowers but they have no normal anther.There are degenerate filaments and abnormal anthers in staminodes and the abnormal anthers have no pollen.The ovary of pistil in male-sterile tobacco Gexin 3 has 3 carpels,while the ovary of normal tobacco(maintainer line) has only 2 carpels.
