Abstract

Objective: To establish a gas chromatographic (GC) method for the determination of free fatty acids (FFA) compositions in human serum Methods: A stainless steel column (3 0 mm×1 0m) packed with 15% ployethylene glycolsuccinate on chromosorb WAW DMCS is used The FFA in serum were transformed into the fatty acid methyl esters directly Pentadecanoic acid (C 15:0 ) was used as internal standard Results: The serum samples for detection and separation of the peaks for all the FFA were performed within 16 min The recoveries ranged from 84 43% to 103 90% The intra and inter assay cofficients of variaton were less than 5 28% and 7 63% respectively Conclusion: The method is simpler ,more rapid and more reliable It is suited for clinical use At the same time, we found that FFA composition of the health adult aren't significantly different between the youth and the middle age group
