Abstract

Forest resource in Sichuan province is an important component of east part of Tibetan Forest Area, which is one of the three largest forest areas in China. A natural defense in maintaining the ecological balance in the Yangtze River Valley, forest resources in Sichuan province can play an extremely importal role with its sustainable development. Based on analysis on the current status, characteristic and existing problems of forestry resources in this area, we conclude that forest resources in Sichuan province is rather abundant with great potential and high biodiversity. Existing problems include insufficient artificial forest, serious forest soil degradation, unevenly distribution of resources, monotonous species and unreasonable forest structure. Meanwhile more effort should be made on varieties of introduction and exploitation of the forest resources, to preserve the biodiversity and enhance its role in natural defense, and emphasis should be put equally on and economical as well as ecological benefits.
