Meta-analysis of comparative study on the quality of life of schizophrenia treated with risperidone and clozapine.

Objective To compare the quality of life of two groups of schizophrenic patients who were treated with risperidone and clozapine respectively. Methods The compare effects differences in quality of life of 8 articles from China including 988 schizophrenic patients who were treated with risperidone(501) and clozapine(487) respectively were meta -analyzed. Results 5 samples investigated by WHOQOF-100 Chinese version were synthesized, showing that there are significant difference between treatment by risperidone and clozapine in the 6 domains and the overall of the quality of life of the patients. The effect of risperidone was better than that of clozapine on the quality of life of the patients in Psychological, Level of Independent,Social relations,Environment,Spiritdomains and the Overall of quality of life. However, the effect of clozapine was slightly better than that of risperidone on the quality of life of the patients in physical domain. The reliability was good. 4 samples investigated by GQOLI were synthesized, showing that risperidone group has better result in physical function, mental health, social function than clozapine group. Conclusions Resperidone is favorable for schizophrenic patients to return to society.
