Abstract
Water holding capacity of forest litters and character of soil hydrological were studied in three kinds of natural second forest in the mountainous regions of north Hebei province. The results showed that the litter total storage capacity was about 11.750-15.588t/hm2,the maximum water holding capacity ranged from 44.55 t/hm2 to 49.18 t/hm2.Effective interception of forest litters were Betula platyphylla-Populus davidianaPopulus davidiana-Betula platyphylla-Acer monoBetula platyphylla-Betula dahurica. The average of soil bulk density ranged from 0.72 g/cm3 to 0.95g/cm3,total soil porosity was about 55.16%-60.21%.With the increasing of soil thickness, soil bulk density was increased, but total soil porosity was decreased, which pointed out that the surface soil was loose. The average of soil bulk density were Betula platyphylla-Betula dahuricaBetula platyphylla-Populus davidiana Populus davidiana-Betula platyphylla-Acer mono, but total soil porosity were Populus davidiana-Betula platyphylla-Acer mono Betula platyphylla-Populus davidiana.Betula platyphylla-Betula dahurica.Total impoundment of Populus davidiana-Betula platyphylla-Acer mono forest,Betula platyphylla-Populus davidiana,Betula platyphylla-Betula dahurica were 1239.36 t/hm2,1194.02 t/hm2 and 1135.75 t/hm2 respectively, which showed that water conservation of Populus davidiana-Betula platyphylla-Acer mono forest was the strongest.
