Abstract

Hydraulic model test of a real spillway is conducted in a vacuum tank with a measurement of incipient cavitation number σi at several locations. The test shows that,at different locations, the cavitation numbers σ are different and the incipient cavitation numbers σi of an isolated surface irregularity are also different.Neither the single parameter σ nor σi can represent the cavitation status of the spillway, while the ratio σ /σi is a suitable parameter.
