Analysis of Hp infection in 2333 patients with chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer

AIMS To study the relation of Hp infection,chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer. METHODS The gastric mucosal specimens from patients with chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer through endoscopy were tested for Hp with rapid urease test. RESULTS Hp was positive in 699 among the 2333 patients,and the positive rate was 30.0%.In chronic gastritis,the positive rate of Hp infection was 25.9%.In atrophic gastritis(29.5%), it was higher than that in superficial gastritis(21.7%).In ac- tive gastritis(46.1%) it was higher than that in nonactive gas- tritis(13.2%).In peptic ulcer patients,the positive rate of Hp infection was 48.5%,but there were no significant difference in different parts and stages(P0.05) of peptic ulcer. CONCLUSIONS Hp infection is a cause of active gastritis,and it plays an important role in the development of this gastritis,but there was no direct relation between Hp infection and the oc- currence of ulcer and its healing.
