High-dose leucovorin plus 5-fluorouracil 48-hour continuous infusion combined with cisplatin for advanced or recurrent nasopharygeal carcinoma(NPC)

Objective To assess the anti tumor efficacy and safety of high dose leucovorin plus 5 fluorouracil 48 hour continuous infusion combined with cisplatin in treating advanced or recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).Methods Thirty patients with advanced or recurrent NPC were treated with high dose leucovorin plus 5 fluorouracil 48 hour continuous infusion combined with cisplatin.Results There were four complete response,eighteen partial response,seven no changes and one progressive disease in this series with a total response rate of 73.33%.The main side effects included nausea and vomiting,mucositis,bone marrow suppression and alopecia.All side effects were tolerable and mild.Conclusion High dose leucovorin plus 5 fluorouracil 48 hour continuous infusion combined with cisplatin may be a safe and effective therapy for patients with advanced or recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).
