Abstract
This paper, based on the Relevance Theory, expounds metaphor and context, points out that metaphor is a normal part of language communication, and metaphor interpretation is a process in which some relationship between items in the context or beyond is developed and the best interpretation is achieved. In communication, people interpret the discourse by the human cognition theory. In order to truly understand the implied meaning by the speakers or writers,it is necessary for listeners or readers to find out the interrelated relationship between two items in a sentence, which are not matched to each other, and finally try to give a series of reasoning on the basis of common cognition.
