Abstract
Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of18F-FDG PET / CT for gastric cancer and the effect of imaging results on treatment decisions. Methods Fifty-one patients with gastric cancer and thirty patients with benign lesions(control group) received18F-FDG PET / CT scans. The diagnostic value of the whole body PET / CT imaging for the gastric cancer and its effect on clinical decision were assessed by visual and semiquantitative analysises based on the results of the surgical pathology, gastroscope biopsy and clinical following up. Results To the 81 patients, the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of PET / CT for the gastric cancer were94.1%, 83.3% and 90.1% respectively. Results of the diagnosis of regional lymph node metastasis revealed that the sensitivity and specificity of the PET / CT were 82.3% and 82.4% respectively. Among 51 gastric cancer patients, 21 cases were diagnosed to have metastases in the abdominal cavity and other parts of body.18F-FDG PET / CT detected the metastases in 13 cases(61.9%, 13 / 21).18F-FDG PET / CT dramatically changed the clinical treatment strategies in 8 cases(15.7%,8 / 51). Conclusion18F-FDG PET / CT has important clinical significance in the diagnosis of gastric cancer and can influence the clinical decisions.
