Abstract
Liberalism has been a mainstream theory in Western political philosophy whereas communitarianism poses a challenge to liberalism.Communitarians usually regard John Rawls as a major target for criticism because he is a leading representative of contemporary liberalism.Communitarians ' critique of liberalism generally focuses on tree issues: the abstractness of its conception of person, the universality of the theory of liberalism, and the individualistic essence of liberalism. It is argued that communitarianism proves mainly to be a movement of critical thinking, rather than a constructive theory.
