Abstract
The two-step(acid-base)sol-gel process is employed to prepare SiO_2 aerogels with TEOS as the precursor. The influence of solvent on the sol-gel proceed is investigated to optimize the experimental conditions. Ultralow-density silica aerogels with densities as low as 3 mg/cm~3 are made. SEM, BET,pore size distribution techniques are used to characterize the morphology and pore structure of the ultralow-density silica aerogel. The results show that CH_3CN can run up gel process and prepare low density silica aerogels rapidly.
