Efficacy and safety of solifenacin in treating overactive bladder

Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of solifenacin in the patients with overactive bladder.Methods:The double-blind randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted.A total of 90 patients with overactive bladder(OAB) were enrolled in the clinical trial,45 cases were assigned to receive solifenacin(5 mg once daily after breakfast for 8 weeks) and 45 cases were assigned to receive toherodine(2 mg twice daily for 8 weeks).After 8 weeks' treatment,the improvement of frequency of urgency episodes in 24h,frequency of urination in 24h,first desire to void,maximum bladder capacity and maximum flow rate were used to evaluate the efficacy of solifenacin.We evaluated the safety of solifenacin by comparing the rate of adverse drug reactions between the two groups.Results:The frequency of urination in 24h,first desire to void,maximum bladder capacity,maximum flow rate and frequency of urgency episodes in 24h were significantly improved in the patients with OAB receiving solifenacin,as compared with the patients with OAB receiving toherodine(P0.05).Adverse drug reactions in the patients with OAB receiving solifenacin were lower than those in the patients with OAB receiving toherodine(P0.05).Conclusion:Compared with toherodine,solifenacin could be the safer and effective drug in the treatment of OAB.
