Abstract
Objective To investigate whether a small dose of fentanyl can predict the effectiveness and safety of fentanyl continuous intravenous postoperative analgesia in elderly patients. Methods 30 cases of aged patients were administrated 50μg of fentanyl IV before the induction of anesthesia. According to their response, all cases were divided into group A and group B, then all cases were treated with fentanyl continuous intravenous postoperative analgesia.Visual analog scale (VAS) at 6h,24h after operation, incidence and severity of side effects were recorded. Results 18 patients were categorized as group A and 12 patients were categorized as group B.Ratio of VAS≤3 at 6h,24h after operation, incidence and severity of side effects were significant differences between group A and B(P0.05). Conclusion A small dose of fentanyl given before the induction can predict the effectiveness and safety of fentanyl continuous intravenous postoperative analgesia in elderly patients.
