A Retrospective Survey in Child Sexual Abuse and Its Correlation to the Psychiatric Disorder Among Collegians

Abstract

Objective To survey the occurrence of different style of childhood sexual abuse among adult students and analyze the correlation between psychiatric disorder and childhood sexual abuse.Methods Totally 1 386 respondents substantially completed surveys.They were asked on 8 retrospective questions about childhood sexual abuse,as well as questions on depression,anxiety,negative coping style and self-esteem.Results Of respondents,20.5% reported ever having had non-physical contact sexual abuse,the rate of physical contact sexual abuse was 7.6%.The frequencies of each type of childhood sexual abuse were significant different in different genders,different mother's education backgrounds,different father's education backgrounds and different grades(P0.05).The scores of depression,anxiety,negative coping style were increased with the frequencies of each type of childhood sexual abuses,but the score of self-esteem were on the contrary(P0.05).Conclusion Childhood sexual abuse among students is not rare,and associated with poor mental health.
