Overseas Chinese Economy Policy in Late Qing

After the Opium War, especially after the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-95 the Qing government adopted a series of reform in economic policy to attract investment of overseas Chinese. These measures protected the interests of the overseas Chinese investing in mainland and promoted the first wave of overseas Chinese investment in Mainland China. Although the Qing government could not fully protect the interests of overseas Chinese, these measures had some positive effects on the development of Chinese economy.
