The Chan sect aesthetics is the Cultivation aesthetics of transcendence-type which is hased on the actual life but surmounts it. The Chan sect geare its cultivahon to the daily needs, in ouler to make its aesthetic mentality endowe, in the coume of cultivation, with chaseteristics of confirming man's spiritual cndion and suitable combination of activity with quietnes, resulting in beautifolness of silence. The fact that this kind of aesthetics differs from secular aesthetics lies in its thought transduction which may be attributed to the type of smiling while fingering flowers, and in its compact on the mood of aesthetics in ancient times of China by its aesthetic notions, the most outstanding of which is no more than the doctrine of freedom and naturalness in the sense of there being nothing but emptiness in the world. The self quality and ego mind it advocates, is described as the path by which Buddha's self strenge-type aesthetics communicates with mankind's freedom, liberation and spiritual creation, and consequently, threads together the two worlds of Buddhist monks and common people, most condusive to bringing into full play the creative power of appreciating the beautiful.
