Preventive and therapeutic effects of baogantang decoction on alcoholic fatty liver rats

Aim To observe the preventive and therapeutic effects of baogantang decoction on alcoholic fatty liver rats.Methods The model of alcoholic fatty liver rats were established by feeding liquor and high fat diet four weeks.Rats were divided into baogantang decoction groups including prevention group and treatment groups(high-,medium-and low-dose group),corresponding control groups(blank groups and model groups)and tiopronin treatment group.Indices include state of health,body weight,liver weight liver index,observation of liver stained and serum ALT,AST.Results Compared with the blank group,the general state of health of model group was bad.This condition could be improved by medicines to different degrees.Compared with blank group,the liver index was significantly higher in model group(P0.01).Compared with model group,the liver index was lower in prevention group(P0.05),Baogantang decoction treatment groups and tiopronin group(P0.01).Compared with blank group,fatty degeneration of liver cells were severe in model group(P0.01),but medicines could relieve the degree of fatty degeneration(P0.05);Compared with blank group,the levels of serum AST(P0.05)and ALT(P0.01)were higher in modcl group and medicines could also decrease these indexes.Conclusion Baogan tang decoction had the effects of preventing and treating alcoholic fatty liver.
