EXPRESSION AND CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF HEPARANASE IN PRIMARY HEPATOCELLULAR CARCINOMA

Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significances of heparanase(Hpa) in primary hepatocellular carcinoma tissue.Methods Immunohistochemistry of avidin-biotin complex was used in this study.Results The positive rate of Hpa was 57.8% in 45 cases with primary hepatocellular carcinoma.The positive rates of Hpa were significantly lower in cases of well differentiated cancer(6/17),cases without intrahepatic metastasis(12/28),and cases without lymph node metastasis(14/31)than that in the cases of carcinomas of poor differentiation(20/28)(P0.05),cases with intrahepatic metastasis(14/17)(P0.05),and cases with lymph node metastasis(12/14)(P0.05).Conclusion Hpa is an important marker reflecting the biological behaviors and prognosis of primary hepatocellular carcinoma.The positive expression of Hpa suggests higher maligance and poor prognosis.
