Abstract
Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture on lumbar intervertebral disc herniation.Method In 92 patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation,3-5 acupoints were selected according to the state of illness and punctured routinely with filiform needles. The needles were connected with a G6805-2 Multi-Purpose Health Device. The therapeutic effect was evaluated after one month of treatment. The relationships of the therapeutic effect with the direction of intervertebral disc protrusion, the duration of disease and classification based on syndrome differentiation were examined.Result The total efficacy rate and the cure and marked efficacy rate were 96.7% and 79.3%.The observed results showed that the cure and marked efficacy rate was higher in the lateral type than in the central type and higher in the cold-dampness type than in the blood stasis type(P0.01).The therapeutic effect was better in the patients with less than one year's duration of disease than in those with more than one year's(P0.01,P0.05).Conclusion Electroacupuncture is an effective way to treat lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. Its therapeutic effect is related to the direction of intervertebral disc protrusion, the duration of disease and classification based on syndrome differentiation.
