Abstract

Hemingway is recognized as the spokesman of the lost generation in the 20th century.In most of his works,the protagonists are always in a state of self-exile,which embodies a kind of nothingness.As the representative works of his early short stories,Hills like White Elephants reflects the very style.The essay analyzes the phenomenon of indulging in alcohol drinking in Hills like White Elephants from the perspective of Anis,and compares it with Hemingway's other similar works in order to seek for the reasons behind the phenomenon and the intention of the writer.
