Prevalence of overweight and obesity among adolescents in Lanzhou and logistic regression analysis on related risk factors

Objective To understand the prevalence of overweight and obesity and related factors of adolescents in Lanzhou so as to provide scientific methods to prevent obesity.Methods By using multi-stage random cluster sampling,1 400 adolescents aged 11 to 20 were selected from two middle schools and examined by physical examinations.The related factors of overweight and obesity in adolescents were analyzed by Logistic regression.Results The overweight rate of boys and girls was 14.73% and 4.13% respectively;the obesity rate was 3.08% and 1.54% respectively.The overweight and obesity rate of boys are higher than girls after standardization.The risk factors of obesity were sex,drinking alcohol,cigarette smoking,lack of sleep and eating fish more than one time,while protection factors were physical exercise and enough sleeping.Conclusion The overweight and obesity prevalence in adolescents are high.The overweight and obesity prevalence of boys are higher than girls after standardization.Actions should be taken to prevent adolescents from overweight and obesity as soon as possible.
