Development of Internet Addiction Scale and Relationship between Internet Addiction and Mental Health of College Students

Abstract

Objective:To develop a Chinese-culture-based College Students Internet Addiction Scale(CSIAS) and to explore the relationship between internet addiction and mental health.Method: 205 college students are tested to develop the CSIAS and 1588 college students are tested using CSIAS to explore the relationship between internet addiction and mental health.Results: CSIAS has good reliability and validity;Scores of CSIAS are significantly correlated with 10 dimensions of SCL-90(r=0.326～0.374,P0.01);Addiction group have significantly higher scores than normal group in 10 dimensions of SCL-90(t=5.690～7.001,P0.001).Conclusion: CSIAS has good reliability and validity and can be used as a reliable tool; College students' internet addiction can predict their mental health;The normal group have better mental health than the addiction group.
