Abstract
With wide use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), to obtain results that accord well with test has become ultimate target for the analyzer. Proper simplification of tiny features on CAD model can reduce solving time of FEA. While unreasonable simplification sometimes can get results that are completely opposite to truth. In this paper due to getting rid of the tiny feature of oil release hole of piston, FEA gave a result extremely different with engine test. Optimization for piston is forced to pass the test. Tiny features affected FEA result badly, so some tiny features on FEA model can't be thrown off randomly in some cases.
