Abstract

The Japanese version of modernization----typical representative of the East-Asian mode of modernization----represents the third kind of modernization mode after the western mode and Russo-East-European mode. The major characteristics of this third mode of modernization include such practices as the emphasis on human factor over material factor, and the recognition of the improvement of human quality as the key factor. The fundamental path to achieve this goal, as is recognized, is to place sufficient importance upon education, and to stick to the essential strategy of 揵asing the construction of the country on science and education.?In its adherence to the 揷ultural mode?in its practice of modernization, Japan has blazed a unique path to modernization, which ought to draw extensive attention in the world.
