The general situation of tuna fishery in the indian ocean

The report presents the general situation of tuna fisheries in the Indian Ocean within recent ten years. There are up to forty countries and regions engaging in tuna fishing in this ocean, of which the main are the EEC, Indonesia, India, Iran, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Maldives, which account for 68.17% of the total catch in 2000. The annual catch was 1.4 mtons in 2000, of which the majority were tuna, followed by Skipjaik, Katsuwonus pelami, yellowfin tuna, thunns albacares, bigeye tuna and thunnus obesus. The main fishing gear tuna in the ocean annually, from 444 tons in 1995 to 6408 tons in 2000.
