Abstract

Objective To analysis the changes of hyoid position and orientation in subjects with Class Ⅲ malocclusion. Methods Fifty children (25 cases with normal occlusion,25 cases with skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion)were selected according to skeletal relationships. Cephalometric analysis was made for the assessment of hyoid position and orientation in relation to skeletal structures. Results Compared with normal occlusion, skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion showed a more anterior and upper position of hyoid bone and also had a reverse inclination in relation to mandibular bone. Conclusion The study showed that changes in hyoid bone position were related to malocclusion.
