Abstract

Objective To analyze the relationship between lymph-vascular space invasion(LVSI) and the staging and histopathologic parameters of squamous cervical cancer, as well as its impact on the prognosis, in order to provide guidances for formulating treatment regimen and prognosis. Methods Retrospective analyse the clinic data of 546 patients with squamous carcinoma of cervix (SCC) who were treated in the Department of Gynecology and Obestetrics, West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University from January 1, 2005 to July 31, 2007. The chi-square test and Logistic regression were used to evaluate the relationship between lymph-vascular space invasion and other histopathologic parameters. Results Lymph-vascular space invasion appeared to have significant association with histological type, invasion depth, lymph-nodes metastasis and parametrial infiltration by the chi-square test. The factors associated with lymph-vascular space invasion were histological type, invasion depth and lymph-nodes metastasis by the Logistic regression. The incidence of lymph-vascular space invasion increased with the higher operative-histologic staging with statistic significance. Conclusion Lymph-vascular space invasion is an important prognostic factor for cervical cancer, and also can provide guidance for prognostic judgment and formulating treatment regimen. Key words: squamous carcinoma of the cervix; lymph-vascular space invasion; lymph-nodes metastasis; prognosis
