Radiotherapy Combined with Chemotherapy with DF regimen for Local Advanced Esophageal Cancer

Objective To evaluate the effect of radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy with DF regimen for local advanced esophageal cancer.Methods From January 1994 to December 1998, 190 cases of local advanced esophageal cancer were divided into two groups:1.98 patients treated with radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy with DF regimen(R+C group);2.92 patients treated with radiotherapy alone (R group).Results The 1-,2-,3-year survival rates were 60.2%,43,9%,31.6% in R+C group and 44.6%,29.3%,16 3% in R group,respectively.The survival rates in R+C group were much better than those in R group ( P 0.05).The 3-year local control rates were 45 9% in R+C group and 31 5% in R group ( P 0 05).The 3-year distant metastasis rates were 11.2% in R+C group and 22.8% in R group ( P 0.05).There was no serious toxicity in R+C group.Conclusions Radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy with DF regimen for local advance esophageal cancer can notably improve local control rate,dicrease distant metastasis and improve survival rate of esophageal cancer without increasing serious toxic therapyreastions or complications.
