Abstract
The reasons why Zhang Xue liang began to devote his time and energy to the study of the history of the Ming dynasty after the Xian Incident are as follows. First, he acted in accordance with Jiang Jie shi's instruction of doing more reading than paying attention to politics. Second, the similar experience he shared with Wang Yang ming aroused his interest in the history of the Ming dynasty. Finally, living in the most unstable era in the Chinese history, he wanted to work out the causes of the instability by studying the history of the Ming dynasty. Zhang Xue liang intended to get out of politics by studying the history of the Ming dynasty.
