Abstract
Objective:To observe the effect of propofol on the convulsion induced by picrotoxin and bicuculline, and compared this effect with thiopentone. Methods:One hundred and twelve NIH mice were randomly divided into control groups、 propofol groups and thiopentone groups. 0.9% saline were given as control. Doses of propofol 25、 50、 100 mg/kg were administered in the propofol groups. In the thiopentone groups, thiopentone 12.5、 25、 50 mg/kg were give. These drugs were administered intraperitoneally. Picrotoxin and bicuculline were infused continuously through tial vein to induce convulsion. The convulsant threshold were determined in all groups. Results:Copampared with control group, Propofol as well as thioptentone increased convulsant threshold of mice in a dose dependent manner ( P 0.01). Conclusion:Propofol has similar anticonvulsant effect to thiopentone induced by picrotoxin and bicuculline.
