Abstract
Objective To assess the efficacy and safety of electrolyzed oxidizing water on skin disinfection. Methods Ninety healthy subjects were enrolled in the study between February and August 2006.The subjects were randomly assigned to group A,B,and C.Subjects in group A were disinfected with electrolyzed oxidizing water for 2 minutes;subjects in group B were disinfected with electrolyzed oxidizing water for 4 minutes;and subjects in group C were cleaned with iodine for 3 minutes. The outcome was considered successful for classⅢregion staff if total bacteria colonies≤10 CFU/cm2 and no staphylococcus aureus, escherichia coli,or pseudomonas aeruginosa was detected. The outcome was considered successful for classⅠandⅡregion staff if total bacteria colonies≤5 CFU/cm2 and no staphylococcus aureus, escherichia coli,or pseudomonas aeruginosa was detected. Results A successful outcome was achieved in 100% of the subjects in group A,96.7% in group B and 100% in group C for classⅢregion standard.A successful outcome was also achieved in 86.7% of the subjects in group A,93.3% in group B and 100% in group C for classⅠandⅡregion standard. Conclusions Electrolyzed oxidizing water is safe and efficacious for skin disinfection. It can be used for skin disinfection for classⅢregion staff.Increased sample size is recommended to evaluate whether electrolyzed oxidizing water is suitable for classⅠandⅡregion staff skin disinfection.
