An Analysis of the Spatial Pattern of Regional Economic Development in the Shanghai Suburbs

Abstract

ESDA has already become an important tool in analyzing spatial association patterns of regional economic development.Based on social-economic data of Shanghai from 1997 to 2004,the paper analyzes changing town-level spatial-temporal patterns of regional economic disparity in Shanghai.The results show that there are significant hot spots in the Shanghai suburbs.Hot spots are mainly located in Jiading,Minhang,Qingpu,Songjiang and they show a south-bound expansive pattern. Economic distribution model shows the characteristics of the expansion of the central city and transport corridor-type distribution.
