The Diagnosis of Insulinoma and Tumor Localization

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the diagnosis of insulinoma and tumor localization in 4 cases.Methods There were 4 patients diagnosed as insulinoma in our department from April 2005 to Oct 2008.Results The diagnosis of insulinoma of these 4 patients was made by Whipple's triad,hypoglycemia and high serum insulin.Tumor localization studies showed:only one patient of 4 ultrasonography had positive finding,none had positive finding though CT(5.0 mm).After underwent intraarterial calcium stimuliation and venous sampling(ASVS)test,all patients underwent CT(2.5 mm+enhance)to localization.All patients had been localizated.3 cases with insulinoma were proved by surgery and pathology,1 case refused surgery.The localization of tumor by ASVS test and CT(2.5 mm+enhance)was confirmed in surgery in all 3 cases.Conclusion The diagnosis of insulinoma is made by Whipple's triad,hypoglycemia and high serum insulin.ASVS test and CT(2.5 mm+enhance)are safe and accurate studies in insulinoma localization,they can increase insulinoma preoperative localization.
