Family Property and Family Discipline:A Case Study of the Li Family in Raoyang in the Song Dynasty

The family property and family discipline of the Li family in Baoyang were so highly appreciated in the Song Dynasty that the family was regarded as a typical bureaucratic family of conservatism and influence early in the Northern Song Dynasty.Although family property d a bureaucratic family was deemed hard to manage in the Song society,the Li family of several generations living together,had its characters in property management.The family had special store- house and detailed rules for particular spending when the property is stored and have written redo regulations for property man- agement.The Li family paid special attention to external relations while it handled well internal rehtions under the family discipline and tradition.Well-handling of both internal and external relations helped a lot in the Li family's maintenance and development.In the Song Dynasty,most of bureaucratic families gave importance to family property and use family property relationship to promote family discipline and tradition.This effort affected greatly maintenance of bureaucratic family.
